Abstract Details

Purpose:

Cataract surgery has become one of the refractive surgery, many surgeons have been looking for more accurate intraocular lens power calculation formula. This study aimed to demonstrate how the level of accuracy differs with formulas using LENSTAR LS900®.

Setting:

private/Osaka,Japan

Methods:

IOL power prediction error in 104 consecutive operations that were measured with LENSTAR and inserted Tecnis9003 IOL was analyzed. To illustrate the importance of formulas, predictions were calculated using, Haigis, Olsen, HolladayII and SRK/T. All calculations were optimized in retrospect to account for systematic errors, including IOL constants and off-set error.

Results:

The mean absolute error was 0.29D in Haigis, 0.32D in Olsen, 0.36D in HolladayII and 0.37D in SRK/T, respectively. There was statistical significant difference between Haigis and SRK/T (p=0.033) (Wilcoxon signed-rank test).

Conclusions:

In this condition Haigis formula was better in accuracy than SRK/T formula.
