Abstract Details
Purpose:
To investigate and evaluate the visual outcome, efficacy and cellular integrity after implantation of collamer lens four years ago.
Setting:
Magrabi Riyadh Center, Saudi Arabia
Methods:
This study takes the account of 26 Saudi patients, 14 females and 12 males of 20-42 years of age with mean of 26 years; inclusive of 44 eyes, 19 OD and 25 OS. All were diagnosed as having High Myopia with pre-operative UDVA range of
CF2M to 20/70 with mean of 20/400; and BCVA range of 20/100 to 20/20 with mean of 20/35. Pachymety ranged from 447µm to 617µm, mean of 536.18µm. Simulated keratomety ranged from steepest of 41.10 to 52.10D and to flattest of 38.2D to
45.86. Mean endothelial cell count was 2499.43 + 547.44.
Results:
All were uneventful surgeries and were monitored for visual acuity and
endothelial cell count variations. Visits were pre-arranged at 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 months post-op. A mean of 20/36 UDVA and 20/23 BCVA were achieved in a four year follow-up. Mean endothelial cell count in the whole 4-year post operative period was 2412.66 + 343.75.
Conclusions:
Implantation of collamer lens showed stable visual outcome as manifested in this research. Endothelial cellular integrity is decreased by 3.60% after 4 years of implantation.
