Abstract Details

Purpose:

To describe eye-movements during Femto LASIK as well as predicting factors for those movements and their potential influence on refractive outcome.

Setting:

Dpt. of Ophthalmology, Goethe-University, Frankfurt, Germany

Methods:

Retrospective analysis 4-7 months post myopic aspheric Femto-LASIK (FS60 femtosecond laser, AMO, Amaris 750 excimer laser, Schwind). Inclusion criteria were follow-up examinations (refraction and visual acuity) 4-7 months post initial surgery and 100% successful dynamic intraoperative tracking of eye-movements by the laser's eye tracker (lateral 1050Hz (x/y) and torsional 30Hz (t) recognition. Movements have been analysed by means of Fourier analysis, influence of preoperative refractive data on eye movements as well as the movements influence on postoperative results by multiple regression analysis.

Results:

306 eyes of 167 patients with a mean manifest spherical equivalent (SE) of -3.97±2.18D and astigmatism (CYL) of -0.93±0.85D have been included. 4 eyes have not been analysed due to movement recognition below 100%. 95%, 80% and 50% of eye movements were slower than x: 346/63 /4Hz, y: 422/170/10Hz, t: 11,28/3,90/0,46Hz. Postoperative SE was 0.02±0.38D, postoperative CYL was -0,36±0,30D. No correlation between preoperative refractive data, intraoperative eye-movements and postoperative refractive data was shown.

Conclusions:

Eye-movements during Femto-LASIK can be compensated by the used eye-tracker to an extend, that they have no further influence on postoperative refractive results.
