Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate visual outcome, contrast sensitivity and patients’ satisfaction after bilateral cataract surgery with implantation of the trifocal AT LISA Zeiss 839 MP IOLs

Setting:

Pomaranian Medical University, Szczecin

Methods:

Prospective study comprising 40 eyes of 20 patients undergoing cataract surgery with implantation of the trifocal one-piece At Lisa 839 IOL Zeiss in one eye and three weeks later in the fellow eye. The following parameters were evaluated at 3 months postoperatively: binocular uncorrected distance, intermediate and near visual acuity (UDVA, UIVA, UNVA), uncorrected binocular photopic and mesopic distance and photopic near contrast sensitivities (CSV-1000), subjective symptoms and patient satisfaction (VF-14).

Results:

After 3 months, all eyes obtained a UDVA of 0,1 or better. All eyes had binocular vision at 40 cm higher than 0,2. The intermediate vision was better than 0,3. Contrast sensitivities under different conditions were within normal age-matched limits. Low level of halo perception was reported. Mean overall patient satisfaction was very high

Conclusions:

Trifocal IOL implantation after phacoemulsification was a safe and effective method for pseudophakic presbyopia correction in patients at all distances
