Abstract Details

Purpose:

To present the clinical data of the first 11 patients implanted with a custom-made Rayner Centerflex 571T intraocular lens.

Setting:

Maastricht University Eye Clinic

Methods:

11 eyes of 7 patients with a mean age 55.0+/-13.8 years were implanted with a Rayner Centerflex 571T intraocular lens. Uncorrected and best-corrected distance visual acuity (UDVC, BDVA) were measured using Snellen visual acuity charts. Mean preoperative refractive cylinder was 5.55+/-2.55 Diopters (D) (range 1.25 to 9.00D) and mean preoperative corneal astigmatisme was 4.61+/-2.63 D (range 1.40 to 8.00D). Mean follow-up was 3 months.

Results:

Mean BDVA improved from 0.67+/-0.30 (range 0.20 to 1.20) Snellen visual acuity preoperatively to 1.01 +/- 0.14 three months postoperatively. UDVA was 0.74 +/- 0.13 at 3 months postopeatively. Postoperative spherical equivalent was 0.7 +/- 0.7D, with a mean refractive cylinder of -1.36 +/- 0.44D. A Snellen UDVA of ≥ 0.7 was achieved in 80% of eyes. Postoperatively the absolute misalignment was 3.8 +/- 3.4 degrees.

Conclusions:

Rayner Centerflex 571 T intraocular lens is an effective and safe method for the treatment of high corneal astigmatisme in cataract surgery with good positional stability.
