Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyse the results of refractive toric multifocal intraocular lens implant with rotational asymmetry

Setting:

Spire Hartswood Hospital, Brentwood, Essex United Kingdom

Methods:

38 eyes of 19 patients with cataract and high astigmatism ranging from 1 to 5 dioptres of astigmatism were included in the study. All patients received toric multifocal IOL with surface embedded 3 dioptre sector shaped near segment inferiorly (Lentis M Plus Toric). IOL calculations were performed using web based online calculator. Uncorrected distance and near vision, corrected distance and near vision, auto refraction, subjective refraction were recorded pre- and post operatively.

Results:

95% patients achieved uniocular unaided vision of 0.00 for distance and N6 for near. Binocular vision of 0.00 for distance and N6 for near was achieved in 98% of patients. High satisfaction rates (98%) was achieved in satisfaction surveys post operatively.

Conclusions:

Toric multifocal IOL in cataract surgery gave good refractive and visual outcomes and spectacle independence was achieved in majority of patients.
