Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate astigmatism correction with Toric multifocal 3.0 ADD and monofocal intraocular lenses from 2 clinical studies.

Setting:

Multicenter clinical trial

Methods:

Two clinical studies were conducted to evaluate the clinical performance of the AcrySof Toric multifocal (SND1TT, N=386 patients) and monofocal (SA60TT, N=243 patients) IOLs. Patients had 0.75D or more of corneal astigmatism and underwent bilateral cataract extraction. 6-month postoperative clinical outcome measures include visual acuity, astigmatism reduction, and rotational stability of IOLs.

Results:

6-month uncorrected visual acuity was 0.03±0.11 and 0.12±0.16; corrected visual acuity was -0.04±0.09 and -0.02±0.11 logMAR at distance for the multifocal and monofocal toric IOLs, respectively. In the multifocal toric group, postoperative cylinder was within 0.5D in 79.8% and 1.0D in 97.4% of eyes. Mean IOL rotation was 5.0±6.1 and 4.7±4.0 degrees in the first and second operative eyes. In the monofocal toric IOL group, 6-month postoperative cylinder was within 0.5D in 63% and 1.0D in 87% of eyes. Mean IOL rotation at 6 months was 2.2±4.34 degrees.

Conclusions:

Clinical outcomes following bilateral implantation of the AcrySof ReSTOR Toric 3.0 D IOL reveal good visual acuity at distance, intermediate, and near and significant reduction in postoperative refractive astigmatism. The results from the 2 studies show good and consistent clinical outcomes with the AcrySof ReSTOR Toric 3.0 D IOL.
