Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report my commercial experience with Raindrop Near Vision Inlay for the treatment of presbyopia and to compare retrospectively with my monovision LASIK patients.

Setting:

Lasikcentrum Oogkliniek , Boxtel The Netherlands

Methods:

Seventeen (n=17) patients were implanted with the Raindrop Near Inlay after creating a corneal flap of 150 microns and 8 mm diameter with the 150 kHz IntraLase femtosecond laser. Concurrent laser ablation was performed on 11 patients with a target refraction (+0.75 D) in the inlay eye. 3 month postop regimen of steroid eye drops were used to prevent foreign body reaction in the inlay eye. Visual acuities for far and near were tested at several time points. Results are compared retrospectively to an age-matched cohort of monovision LASIK patients.

Results:

At 3 months, all Raindrop and monovision LASIK patients achieved binocular uncorrected near and distance of 20/25 (0.8) or better. Monocularly, UDVA was better in eyes implanted with Raindrop (20/40 or better: achieved by 81% in Raindrop eyes compared to 36% in monovision LASIK near treated eyes). Best corrected distance vision remained stable for both cohorts from preop to postop. Quality of life, satisfaction and spectacle independence will be presented at the meeting.

Conclusions:

In my experience, the Raindrop inlay provides similar near vision improvement as monovision LASIK but with less monocular distance vision impairment. Raindrop is a viable commercial product for the correction of presbyopia in my practice.
