Abstract Details

Purpose:

To quantify the effect of change in AC volume ,depth and angle ( pre and post phacoemulsification with in the bag single piece implantation surgery)

Setting:

SunEye hospital , Lucknow India

Methods:

The study was conducted on 120 eyes of patients who had under gone uneventful phacoemulsification with in the bag single piece implantation and who had normal AC (patients with AC abnormality were excluded from the study) over a period of six months at SunEye hospital Lucknow . The AC depth angle and volume was assessed in these patients immediately before surgery and two weeks after the surgery using Pentacam-HR.

Results:

In our study the average anterior chamber depth preoperatively was 3.07(mean 0.54)mm and post operative was found to be 3.97(mean 0.86)mm. The average AC volume preoperative was 162.235(mean 55.34)cmm and post operative was 178.655 (mean 32.82)cu mm . The average AC angle pre operative was 40.69 (mean 10.365)degrees and the post operative value was found to be 48.88(mean 10.20) degrees . A significant increase in (p < 0.01) was observed in AC depth volume and angle in both eyes pre and post operatively. The average percent change in AC depth volume and angle was also assessed . The change in depth was found to be 19.1% The volume increased by 8.2 % and the angle increased by 14.35 %.

Conclusions:

The increase in depth volume and the angle of Anterior chamber after uneventful phacoemulsification with in the bag single piece implantation has a positive effect on the treatment of narrow angle glaucoma and it can be said that cataract surgery alone may be helpful in controlling and curing narrow angle glaucoma
