Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the scotopic contrast sensitivity function (CSF) among different designs of multifocal, accommodative and monofocal IOLs.

Setting:

Vissum corporación, Alicante, Spain

Methods:

This study analysed 270 eyes of 137 patients with ages ranging between 48 and 82 years. 10 groups of eyes were differentiated: group A, 30 eyes implanted with the AT LISA tri 839MP trifocal IOL; group B, 36 eyes implanted with the FineVision trifocal IOL; group C, 22 eyes implanted with the Acrysof ReSTOR SN6AD1 bifocal IOL; group D, 20 eyes implanted with the SeeLens MF bifocal IOL; group E, 21 eyes implanted with the Crystalens HD accommodative IOL; group F, 20 eyes implanted with the Synchrony accommodative IOL; group G, 23 eyes implanted with the Lentis Mplus-LS313 bifocal IOL; group H, 40 eyes implanted with the Acri.Lisa 366D bifocal IOL; group I, 38 eyes implanted with the Acrysof ReSTOR SN6AD3 bifocal IOL; group J, 22 eyes implanted with the Acri.Smart 48S monofocal IOL. Scotopic CSF was measured 3 months after surgery.

Results:

Uncorrected and corrected visual acuities were significantly better for group A (p<0.01), distance corrected, uncorrected and corrected near visual acuities were significantly better for group H (p<0.01). Statistical significant differences among groups were observed in scotopic CSF (p<0.01) for all spatial frequencies, with higher values for group A.

Conclusions:

The AT LISA tri839MP IOL provided a higher scotopic CSF function with better distance visual acuities after cataract surgery.
