Abstract Details

Purpose:

to present results of simultaneous use of laser-endodissector and laser-biostimulator in cataract surgery

Setting:

S. N. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery State Institution, Moscow, Russia.

Methods:

148 surgeries of microinvasive laser cataract extraction (LCE) with use of two types of laser energy: endodissector Nd-YAG 1.44 µm and boistimulator He-Ne 0.63 µm guided on single optical fibre. In control group 176 LCE surgeries with use of endodissector Nd-YAG 1.44 µm only.

Results:

clinical preventive and therapeutic effect of He-Ne 0.63 µm laser was apparent in faster restoration of pupil reaction, decrease of postoperative exudation, less postoperative central cornea hydration, and minimization of endothelial cell loss compared to control group.

Conclusions:

In cataract surgery low intensity and low energy radiation of He-Ne 0.63 µm laser acts as visible red marker for achromatic radiation of Nd-YAG 1.44 µm laser. Also simultaneously He-Ne 0.63 µm laser functions as biostimulator, activates reparative regeneration and blocks starting inflammation.
