Abstract Details

Purpose:

Different options for retreatment procedures after ReLEx®Smile are presented and discussed.

Setting:

Köln

Methods:

From July 2011 to March 2014 16 retreatments (mean refractive error -0,82 dpt) of the ReLEx®Smile (n=962 eyes) have been performed. Optionally we did surface ablation (PRK), standard flap preparation with following excimer laser ablation and the new “Circle-procedure” (single sidecut) with following excimer laser ablation.

Results:

The refractive and visual outcomes after enhancement have been excellent in all cases. PRK patients (without use of MMC) developed haze degree 2 in all cases and had a longer recovery time as usual. The recovery time of the patients with a flap procedure has been within 1-2 days. Typical case reports are presented.

Conclusions:

Retreatments of the ReLEx®Smile are easy to perform. The visual and refractive outcomes are excellent in all cases. The PRK option preserves the biomechanical stability of the cornea. Other options are converting the cap into a flap with consequently lack of corneal stability.
