Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate safety and efficacy of SMILE on follow up more than 1 year

Setting:

Roayah Vision Correction Center, Alexandria, Egypt. and International Femto-laser center Cairo Egypt

Methods:

prospective non comparative case series carried out on 3834 eyes of 1978 myopic patients treated with femtosecond laser SMILE from 2010. Uuncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) , best spectacle corrected visual acuity(BSCVA), manifest refraction and contrast sensitivity were measured in all cases.

Results:

Mean preoperative UCVA , BSCVA and spherical equivalents were 0 .1 ,0.8 and -4.93 respectively. All these parameters showed statistically significant change in the postoperative period. (p<0.01) .Mean postoperative UCVA,BSCVA , spherical equivalent were 0.88,o.98 and -0.38 respectively. A few operative and postoperative complications were reported in our case series.

Conclusions:

SMILE is a safe and effective procedure with long term refractive stability
