Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare the efficacy and refractive outcomes between Keraring and Myoring implantation with femtosecond laser for treatment of keratoconus.
Setting:
Sohag University Hospital, Egypt.
Methods:
A prospective clinical comparative study. 19 eyes of 12 patients with keratoconus where subjected to this study.
Group (A) included 12 eyes of 7 patients and subjected to Keraring implantation while Group (B) included 7 eyes of 5 patients and subjected to Myoring implantation. All eyes where subjected to preoperative and postoperative UCVA, BCVA, manifest refraction, slit lamp examination of anterior segment, IOP, fundus examination, keratometry and pachymetry assessed by Pentacam at 1week, 1 month, 3, 6 and 12 months follow up period.
Results:
In Group (A), the preoperative mean UCVA was 3/60 while the postoperative mean UCVA was 6/60. The preoperative mean BCVA was 6/48 while the postoperative mean BCVA was 6/24. The preoperative average K was 54.70 D while the postoperative average K was 52.83 D. The postoperative astigmatic correction was 3.8 D.
In Group (B), the preoperative mean UCVA was 3/60 while the postoperative mean UCVA was 6/48. The preoperative mean BCVA was 6/30 while the postoperative mean BCVA was 6/12. The preoperative average K was 55.38 D while the postoperative average K was 47.12 D. The postoperative astigmatic correction was 1.1 D.
Conclusions:
Keraring is best for cases with oval or oblique cones and best correcting the astigmatic component of keratoconus. Myoring is best for cases with central or nipple cones and best correcting myopic component of keratoconus.
