Abstract Details

Purpose:

To determine intrasubject repetability of the latest version of the dual Scheimpflug imaging system (GalileiG4, Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems AG) in determining corneal thickness, power, curvature and wavefront aberrations in young healthy subjects.

Setting:

University of Valencia

Methods:

Twenty-five right eyes from 25 subjects aged 20 to 40 years were included in the study. Spherical equivalent (SE) ranged from -4.25 to +1.0D. Central corneal thickness, thinnest point value and location, anterior and posterior surface curvature, total corneal power, and corneal wavefront aberrations were measured using the Galilei G4 (double-Scheimpflug camera) system. Three consecutive measurements were taken on each eye.

Results:

Repeated measures ANOVA only yielded statistically significant differences between the three repeated measures for trefoil aberration. ICCs were higher than 0.950 for all the parameters analysed except for thinnest point chord distance to geometrical corneal center (ICC=0.528) and chord angle (ICC=0.742), corneal astigmatism (ICC=0.811) and its vector components J0 (ICC=0.891) and J45 (ICC=0.724), and all wavefront aberrations measured.

Conclusions:

The Galilei G4 system provides high intraobserver repeatability. Moderate repeatability was obtained for corneal astigmatism and wavefront aberrations in low-astigmatic normal healthy corneas.
