Purpose:
To compare the refractive results of FemtoLASIK performed to correct high myopia vs low myopia.
Setting:
Clínica NOVOVISION. Madrid. Spain.
Methods:
This retrospective study analyzed FemtoLASIK refractive results in eyes with low to moderate myopia (up to -5.75 D) and eyes with myopia higher than -6 D. All flaps were created with the IntraLase femtosecond laser. All procedures were performed by the same surgeon with the Esiris excimer laser (Schwind). We evaluated the uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months after surgery and best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) at the 3 months postoperative follow-up visit.
Results:
1177 eyes were included in the study. (900 in low myopia group vs 277 in high myopia group).There was no differences either in the mean preop BCVA, age or gender between groups. There was no significant difference in UCVA between groups at any postoperative visit. At 3 months 89.8% of the eyes in low myopia group were within +/- 0.50 D and 73.6% in high myopia group (p<0.01) and 97.5% and 89.1% were within ±1.00D in low and high myopia groups (p<0.01).
Conclusions:
FemtoLASIK to correct myopia is an effective and safe procedure correcting both low and high myopia. The accuracy obtained in the low myopia group is slightly, but significantly, better than in the high myopia group.
