Abstract Details
Purpose:
o compare the use of Brilliant Blue G and Trypan Blue when performing lens capsule staning for cataract surgery
Setting:
Centro de investigación y docencia en ciencias de la salud
Methods:
In this pilot study, patients diagnosed with cataract and no preexisting ocular pathology in age range of 40-80 years were randomized into 2 groups. Control group Blue Trypan 0.1% capsulorhexis assisted and study group Brilliant Blue G 0.025% assisted capsulorhexis, assessing the intensity of intraoperative staining and capsule manageability, corneal edema, IOP, VA, anterior
Results:
When comparing both groups, data show that Brilliant Blue G is as effective as Trypan Blue for staining the lens capsule and visualization during surgery; Surgeons found more stability and control when performing CCC, we didnt found statistically significant difference in VA, IOP, corneal edema or inflammation of the anterior chamber
Conclusions:
Brilliant Blue G is a highly biocompatible dye wich helps to perform safely capsulorhexis during phacoemulsification surgery. Lens capsule staining was similar to Trypan Blue group; Manage and control of CCC was higher when using Brilliant Blue G. Outcomes of surgery in terms of VA, IOP and anterior chamber inflammation were similar in both groups
