Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess the efficacy, predictability, and safety of Femto-LASIK for the surgical correction of low to moderate myopia with astigmatism using the SCHWIND AMARIS 1050RS excimer laser and it’s capability to compensate for all occurring eye-movements up to 7 dimensions.
Setting:
Muscat Eye Laser Center, Muscat, Oman.
Methods:
In this retrospective non comparable study patients had intrastromal laser ablation with the non wavefront-guided aspheric algorithm of the Schwind AMARIS 1050RS. All eye movements for linear, rolling and cyclotorsional movements had been tracked and a predictive algorithm had been used to foretelling where the eye will be in a moment. Three-month postoperative outcomes are reported.
Results:
96 eyes of 48 myopic patients had been investigated and analysed. The patients’ mean age was 27 years (range 19 to 40 years). The mean preoperative manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) was -3.35 diopters (D) (range -8.25 D to -0.50 D). Six months postoperatively, 23% of patients achieved an uncorrected distance visual acuity of 20/16 or better and 97% achieved 20/20 or better. 43% gained one or more lines of corrected visual acuity. The postoperative MRSE was within ±0.125 D of the intended refractive target in 54% of eyes and within ±0.50 D in 99%. Using static and dynamic cyclotorsion control (SCC & DCC) postoperative the astigmatism was within 0.25 D in 94% of the eyes.
Conclusions:
Femto-LASIK using an extreme high ablative frequency of 1050 Hz together with a predictive eye-tracker which considers displacements in space and time is a safe and effective procedure, yielding very predictive results.
