Session Title: Multifocal Toric IOLs
Session Date/Time: Tuesday 16/09/2014 | 14:00-16:00
Paper Time: 14:48
Venue: Boulevard A

Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate visual outcome and patient satisfaction after cataract surgery with implantation of Tecnis multifocal (MFIOL) 1-piece, +3,25D and +2,75D near addition.
Setting:
Special Eye Hospital „Svjetlost“, Zagreb, Croatia
Methods:
Tecnis MFIOLs with low-add were implanted to the patients after cataract surgery. In the first group of patients, Tecnis MFIOL 1-Piece ZLB00 (+3,25 D near add) IOLs were bilaterally implanted to 20 patients. In the second group, Tecnis MFIOL 1-Piece ZKB00 (+2,75 D near add) IOLs were bilaterally implanted to 9 patients. In third group, combination of Tecnis MFIOL +2,75 D in dominant eye and Tecnis MFIOL +3,25 D in non-dominant eye was performed in 12 patients. In fourth group, combination of Tecnis MFIOL +3,25 D in dominant eye and Tecnis MFIOL +4,00 D in non-dominant eye was performed in 18 patients. Uncorrected near, intermediate and distance visual acuity, spectacle independence and patient’s satisfaction were measured. Follow up was at least six months.
Results:
In the group with bilateral Tecnis MFIOL +3,25 D all eyes can read 0,8 or better at distance, J2 or better at near and 0,5 or better at 80 cm.
In the group with bilateral Tecnis MFIOL +2,75 D, monocular UCDVA was 0,8 or better in all patients, UCNVA was J3 or better and UCIVA at 80 cm was 0,63 or better in all eyes.
In third group with combination of Tecnis MFIOL +3,25 D and Tecnis MFIOL +2,75 D, patients achieved monocular visual acuities comparable to first two groups. However, binocular uncorrected visual acuities were excellent, UCDVA 1,0 or better; UCIVA 0,8 or better and UCNVA J2 or better.
In fourth group, with combination of Tecnis MFIOL +3,25 D and Tecnis MFIOL +4,00 D all patients had excellent near vision, both monocular (UCNVA J2 or better) and binocular (UCNVA J1 or better). UCIVA was 0,5 or better and UCDVA 0,63 or better in all eyes. Binocular UCIVA was 0,63 or better and binocular UCDVA 0,8 or better in all patients.
Patients were spectacle independent in group 1, 3 and 4. Two of nine patients in group 2 asked glasses for reading small print and they use them occasionally.
Conclusions:
Tecnis MFIOL 1-piece low-add IOLs enable to cataract patients satisfying vision at all distances, with high rate of spectacle independence and low visual disturbances. Combination of different near additions in eyes can increase depth of field and patient’s satisfaction.
