Abstract Details

Purpose:

Evaluate refractive and visual parameters related to distance, intermediate, and near vision and the optical quality of two diffractive bifocal intraocular lenses with same platform and different near addition

Setting:

Innova Ocular, Group

Methods:

In a prospective study the new Tecnis ZLB +3.25 D (Group 1) was compared to the former Tecnis ZKB platform with 2.75D near addition (Group 2). A total of 89 eyes (89 patients) were enrolled; Group 1 n= 65 and Group 2 n= 24. The following parameters were assessed: uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity, near vision at 25, 40 and 80 cm, defocus curve and optical quality with Objective Scattering Index (OSI), Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) and halometry

Results:

At one month, uncorrected binocular distance visual acuity (logMAR) was 0.06± 0.02 in the Group 1 and and 0.03± 0.03 in the Group2. In the near distance the Tecnis ZLB +3.25 Group performed slightly better at 25 cm (0.35 versus 0.42) and worst at 40cm (0.13 versus 0.18) but in the intermediate distance, at 80cm, the VA was better with Tecnis ZKB +2.75 group (0.20 versus 0.27). The best vision at near distance was obtained at 42 cm with the ZLB lens and at 50 cm with the ZKB model. Similar results were obtained in the defocus curves. No significative statistical differences were found for OSI, MTF and halometry between both groups

Conclusions:

Tecnis ZLB and Tecnis ZKB are excellent options to obtain a very good vision at far and at near distance after cataract or prelex surgery. The intermediate vision is excellent too. The most important difference between both lenses is at near distance where each lens reaches the best vision
