Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate long term complications of Cachet Phakic IOL
Setting:
Hospital ArrĂ¡bida, Porto;Portugal
Methods:
113 eyes with myopia from -4.00 to -18.00 were implanted with Cachet Phakic IOL. Outcome measures included refractive predictability, endothelial cell count, intraocular inflammation, rotation of IOL, pupil ovalisation and, iris synechiae
Results:
Refractive predictability was very high (spherical equivalent went from -8.10 to-0.12), endothelial cell loss was 4% at 3 years, no intraocular inflammation occurred in this series. However 17% of eyes showed rotation and in 3 eyes there was late formation of synechiae causing IOL dislocation though reducing critical distance to a dangerous level. These IOLs were explanted. One very discrete pupil ovalisation was observed in 1 of these eyes.
Conclusions:
Cachet phakic IOL has excellent refractive results and seems safe at 4 years follow-up. However these patients must be followed carefully as late dangerous complications may occur.
