Abstract Details
Purpose:
To investigate the long term effects in relation to the efficiency and stability of Artiflex Implantation in a four-year period.
Setting:
Magrabi Riyadh Center, Saudi Arabia
Methods:
This study takes the account of 22 Saudi patients, 12 females and 10 males of 18-39 years of age with mean of 26 years; inclusive of 40 eyes, 21 OD and 19 OS. All were diagnosed as having High Myopia with pre-operative UDVA range of
CF3M to 20/100 with mean of 20/500; and BCVA range of 20/70 to 20/20 with mean of 20/25. Pachymety ranged from 478µm to 631µm, mean of 529.75µm. Simulated keratomety ranged from steepest of 47.61 to 40.40D and to flattest of 45.4D to 33.92D. Mean endothelial cell count was 2445.67 + 404.19.
Results:
All were uneventful surgeries and were monitored for visual acuity and
endothelial cell count variations. Visits were pre-arranged at 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 months post-op. A mean of 20/31 UDVA and 20/22 BCVA were achieved in a four year follow-up. Mean endothelial cell count in the whole 4-year post operative period was 2345.36 + 78.240.
Conclusions:
Artiflex Implantation manifests stable results in terms of visual improvement. A 4.28% decrease in the endothelial cell count was seen after 4 years.
