Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the visual quality of ICL and femtosecond laser LASIK for correction of high myopia.

Setting:

No.115,West Section 1,1st Ring Road,Chengdu,Sichuan,China

Methods:

75 eyes of 43 patients who underwent Visian ICL surgery were enrolled in this study. 114 eyes of 60 patients with high myopia who received Femtosecond Lasik treatment were chosen as control group. The mean refractive spherical equivalent and the mean refractive cylinder of ICL group were -11.20±7.13 D and - 2.50 ±1.13D, respectively. The mean refractive spherical equivalent and the mean refractive cylinder of Lasik group were -8.00±1.35D and ≤-2.0D, respectively. The UCVA, refractive power, total high-order aberration, spherical aberration and coma aberration were evaluated up to 6 months after surgery.

Results:

At 6 months after surgery, RMSh, coma aberration and spherical aberration in ICL group were 0.233±0.107、0.195±0.084, -0.005±0.068, which were significantly reduced after ICL implantation. RMSh, coma aberration and spherical aberration in Lasik group were 0.558±0.207, 0.375±0.189, 0.284±0.196, which were significantly increased after Lasik treatment. There are significantly differences between ICL implantation and Lasik treatment in RMSh, coma aberration, spherical aberration. There were no significantly differences in UCVA and refractive diopters after ICL implantation and Lasik treatment.

Conclusions:

ICL implantation induced less HOAs than femtosecond laser LASIK procedure for the correction of high myopia. ICL implantation provides better visual quality compared with Lasik treatment.
