Abstract Details
Purpose:
To present and validate a high-definition (HD) three-dimensional (3D) visualization system in cataract surgery.
Setting:
Prospective comparative case study
Methods:
The evaluation of the HD 3D visual system was done through cataract surgeries of the left and right eyes of 20 patients. The cataract surgery of the right eye was performed using the ocular part of microscope; on the other hand the surgery on the left eye was performed with the developed HD 3D display system. Evaluation included operation time, total phacoemulsification time, and postoperative visual outcome.
Results:
The developed HD 3D imaging system has advantage over the conventional 3D system having no deduction of resolution due to omitting image reconstruction process,which minimizes the time lag for image reconstruction process. The average operation time on the conventional imaging system was 9.55 minutes,and the one with 3D imaging system was 10.2 minutes. (P=.05) Moreover, there was no statistical difference in total phacoemulsification time (P=.52) and postoperative visual outcome. (P=.16)
Conclusions:
HD 3D visualization system with polarized 3D monitor is a safe and effective alternative method for cataract surgery, and the method can be applied to variousophthalmic surgeries.
