Abstract Details
Purpose:
To demonstrate the reliability of corneal topograhpy IOL-Master biometry, keratometry and wavefront aberrometry to distinguish between corneal induced and lenticular astigmatism.
Setting:
Secondary Eye Care Centre, Recklinghausen, Germany
Methods:
Pre- and postoperative corneal topography, keratometry, wavefront aberrometry and optical biometry with IOL Master was performed. We carried out Scheimplug imaging to represent lenticular anomalies. Corrected and non-corrected visual acuity was determined before and after surgery. Standard phacoemulsification (2.2mm main incision, Centurion Vision Sytem, Alcon, USA) was performed and a toric single piece hydrophobic acrylic PCIOL (Tecnis, AMO, USA) was implanted in the bag. No intraoperative or postoperative complication occured.
Results:
The best corrected visual acuity was 20/50 of the right eye and 20/63 of the left eye preoperatively. The uncorrected visual acuity is 20/20 of the right eye and 20/25 of the left eye one month after surgery. The best corrected visual acuity is 20/20 with +0,75 -0,75 47° of the left eye after one month follow up.
Conclusions:
Preoperative corneal topography, keratometry, optical biometry with IOL Master and wavefront aberrometry provide an efficient and reliable calculation method for planning intraocular toric lens implantation. Intraocular toric lens implantation can succesfully been carried out on patients with lenticular anomalies after careful corneal mapping.
