Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report clinical experience with the APX pupil expander in complicated cases associated with a constricted pupil
Setting:
Meir Medical Center, Kfar-Saba, Israel
Methods:
The APX is a miniature pupillary device designed for eyes with small pupil or patients with intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS). Two devices are used in each eye, inserted through two opposite 19G corneal incisions
Results:
Thirty operations were done in complicated cases including perforating and blunt trauma, dislocated lenses, uveitic cataract, pseudoexfoliation, post glaucoma filtration surgery etc. Surgeries included anterior segment procedures such as cataract extraction, secondary IOL implantation and scleral fixation and posterior segment procedures (pars plana vitrectomy). All operations were successfully performed through a widely dilated pupil.
Conclusions:
The APX pupil expander is clinically very efficient in complicated cases with constricted pupil
