Abstract Details

Purpose:

To review short and long-term safety and efficacy outcomes in a cohort of post-trabeculectomy glaucoma patients undergoing femtosecond laser cataract surgery (LCS) with the LenSx system.

Setting:

Private Practice

Methods:

8 patients with glaucoma who had previous trabeculectomy surgery underwent LCS. Short term (surgical) outcomes were noted. Patients were followed for a minimum of 6 months. Bleb morphology, intraoperative pressure (IOP), visual fields and retinal nerve fibre analysis were monitored for changes

Results:

No increased difficulties with docking or intra-bleb haemorrhages were noted following the laser procedure. Bleb morphology remained stable at 6 months. There were no clinical or statistical differences in visual field or retinal nerve fibre parameters at follow up (P > 0.05).

Conclusions:

In this initial group of potentially high-risk post-trabeculectomy patients, LCS appears safe and effective. A new patient interface and upgraded software now allows LCS to be performed with shorter docking time (< 60-90 seconds), lower energy levels (6-8µJ) and with minimal IOP rise from baseline (16mmHg).
