Abstract Details
Purpose:
to evaluate safety, efficacy and predictability of SMILE in high myopia treatment
Setting:
Roaya eye center,Alexandria,Egypt from during 2011
Methods:
a prospective non comparative case series of 600 eyes (300 patients) with high myopia who were treated with SMILE and followed up for 3 years.all cases had preoperative assesment of uncorrected visual acuity UCVA,best spectacle corrected visual acuity BSCVA ,manifest refraction spherical equivalent9SEQ)and pentacam that was repeated after 1 month,1 year and 3 years.all intraoperative and postoperative complications were reported
Results:
mean preoperative UCVA ,BSCVA and SEQ were 0.1.0.8 and -8.5 respectively.mean preoperative corneal thickness was 523 micron postoperatively statistical significant difference occurred with mean UCVA, BSCVA and SEQ 0.8.1 and-1,2 respectively.(p value less than 0.001) no statistical significant changes was found after 1 and 3 years of follow up.at 1 year UCVA,BSCVA and SEQ had means of 0.78,0.95 and -1.5 respectively .these parameters had means of 0.85,0.99 and -1.57 respectively at 3 years of follow up
Conclusions:
SMILE is a safe and effective refractive solution for high myopian with long term stability
