Abstract Details
Purpose:
To characterize lens design and performance of the new TECNIS® Symfony Extended Range of Vision 1-Piece Intraocular Lens (IOL), Model ZXR00 (AMO).
Setting:
Brest University Hospital - France
Methods:
Simultaneous vision, or the presence of multiple focused images, in multifocal IOLs leads to halos and glare. Through-focus image quality and point spread function (PSF) simulations were evaluated in order to determine whether a second focus is provided by the new TECNIS® Symfony IOL. Comparisons are made to the 1-month results from a prospective, multicenter clinical study in the EU with bilateral implantations of the TECNIS® Symfony IOL, Model ZXR00, in 150 cataract patients. Key evaluation criteria were defocused visual acuity, subject reports of visual disturbances and patient satisfaction questionnaire responses.
Results:
Simulations of through-focus visual acuity and PSF of the TECNIS® Symfony IOL show a continuous range of vision and a lack of multiple distinct foci. Corresponding comparisons of defocused visual acuity, visual disturbances and resulting patient satisfaction data will be provided from the ongoing clinical study.
Conclusions:
Simulations and optical bench measurements with the new TECNIS® Symfony IOL, Model ZXR00, show a continuous range of vision and PSFs that demonstrate reduced halos resulting in reduced optical/visual symptoms.
