Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the performance of the new TECNIS® Symfony Extended Range of Vision 1-Piece Intraocular Lens (IOL), Model ZXR00 (AMO)
Setting:
International Vision Correction Research Centre (IVCRC) – Dept. of Ophthalmology, University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg (Germany). Co-Authors: Alfonso Jose, Cochener Beatrice, Dick Burkhard, Findl Oliver1, Gabric Nikica, Gekeler Katrin, Goes Frank, Grabner Günther, Hoffmann Peter, Marques Eduardo, Maurino Vincenzo, Peris Martinez Cristina, Pisella Pierre-Jean, Ruiz Mesa Ramon - All authors are clinical study investigators paid by AMO – 1 Author is Active Research only Consultant of AMO Groningen BV
Methods:
Defocused image quality of the new TECNIS® Symfony IOL was evaluated with optical bench testing, computer simulations and using an adaptive optics vision simulator. Comparisons are made to the 1-month results of a prospective, multicenter clinical study in the EU with bilateral implantations of the TECNIS® Symfony IOL, Model ZXR00, in 150 cataract patients. Key evaluation criteria are binocular uncorrected visual acuities for distance, intermediate and near, as well as defocus testing and refractive outcomes
Results:
Measurement of lenses and visual simulation show high-quality optical images over a range of distances. Simulated defocused visual acuity did not drop from the peak performance by more than one line over the range of defocus values up to and including 1.5 D. Corresponding clinical results will be compared to optical bench results
Conclusions:
Optical and visual simulations demonstrate that the new TECNIS® Symfony Extended Range of Vision IOL, Model ZXR00, provides good visual outcomes for uncorrected visual acuity over a range of distances, which has been shown to be a good predictor of clinical outcomes
