Abstract Details
Purpose:
To investigate the accuracy and clinical outcomes of wavefront-guided LASIK performed using New Generation Hartmann-Shack aberrometer which could reduce chromatic aberration.
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea
Methods:
A retrospective analysis of consecutive cases of 50 eyes of 25 patients that underwent wavefront-guided LASIK by using a new Hartmann-Shack aberrometer (iDesign Advanced WaveScan aberrometer; Abbott Medical Optics, Inc., Santa Ana, CA) and VISX S4 CustomVue system. Evaluations included measurement of visual acuity, refraction of aberrometry, wavefront aberrometry and patient satisfaction. Data was compared obtained with other Hartmann-Shack aberrometer (Wavescan Abbott Medical Optics, Inc., Santa Ana, CA)
Results:
Spherical equivalent refraction was -3.07±1.20 diopters (D) before surgery changed to -0.20±0.21 diopter 3 month after surgery (p=0.001). High order root mean square error was 0.75±0.16 μm before surgery changed to 0.47±0.13 μm (p=0.043). Uncorrected distance visual acuity of 20/16, 20/20, and 20/25 or better was achieved in 91.3 %, 96.6 %, 100 % 3 month after surgery . Most patients (98.5%) reported that they were satisfied with the outcome of their procedure. Significant differences were found between aberrometers in preoperative spherical equivalent (SE) (IDesign = -3.07±1.20 D, Wavescan = -2.40±0.47 D, p=0.0025). There were no significant differences in total high order aberration, horizontal coma and trefoil (p=0.1979, p= 0.9810, p=0.9143 ).
Conclusions:
Myopic predict spherical equivalent of IDesign seemed to compensate chromatic aberration
Wavefront-guided LASIK performed using New Generation Hartmann-Shack baerrometer was effective, safe, and more accurate in the early postoperative time period for the correction of myopia with high patient satisfaction. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
