Abstract Details
Purpose:
To establish and to prove new profiles for the treatment of hyperopia by Femtosecond Lenticule Extraction (ReLEx FLEx)
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, Philipps University of Marburg
Methods:
In this prospective study nine eyes of 5 patients underwent an uncomplicated hyperopic FLEx using VisuMax Femtosecond laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG). The new lenticule resection profile achieves a 6mm optical zone with a transition zone of at least 2mm. Only the sphere was treated.
Results:
Patients' mean age was 55.5 years and the preoperative spherical equivalent (SE) of the manifest refraction was +1.82 D ( +1,25 till +3.0). Because of the presbyopic age the treatment was aimed at low myopia (mean target SE=-0.88D with a mean treatment refraction of 2.69 D). At one week the mean SE was -0.77 D and at one month -0.75 D. So far all eyes treated were within 0.5D of intended correction with no lines of CDVA lost.
Conclusions:
Our preliminary results indicate a better stability of induced refractive change at the short follow-up when compared to the previously published data. However, six to nine month results are necessary for a proper assessment of refractive stability. These data will be presented at the meeting.
