Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the role and complications of peeling and aspiration of Elschnig's pearls type PCO in RLE
Setting:
Hospital based study at Regional Institute of Ophthalmology
Methods:
Aspiration and peeling of the Elschnig's pearls was done in the patients by same surgeon in 21 patients. Postoperative slit lamp examination was done in the follow up period.
Results:
Aspiration and peeling of the Elchnig's pearls was done in the patients previously operated for RLE by irrigation and aspiration cannula in 21 patients. Cleaning of the posterior capsule was achieved in all the patients. No intraoperative complication like posterior capsule rupture . Slight lifting of the IOL was required to introduce the aspiration cannula. Endophthalmitis was reported in none.
Conclusions:
PCO peeling and aspiration is a good technique for cleaning the PCO as increase in chances of retinal detachment do not occur since posterior capsule remains intact. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
