Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate early clinical outcomes with a new rotationally asymmetric multifocal intraocular lens (Mplus X, Oculentis, Berlin, Germany).

Setting:

Optegra Yorkshire Eye Hospital, Yorkshire, UK

Methods:

Observational case series. Seventeen patients (23 eyes) underwent intraocular lens surgery and Lentis Mplus X implantation by a single surgeon at a single site. Pre and post-operative monocular uncorrected distance (UDVA) and near (UNVA) vision was recorded along with corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), refraction and complications.

Results:

The mean age of patients was 63 ± 6 years (ranging from 51 to 77 years). The post-operative follow-up visit took place 72 ± 14 days after surgery. Mean monocular UDVA post-operatively was (LogMAR) 0.11 ± 0.14. Monocular uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) showed that 76% of eyes read N6 or better. Pre- and post-operative mean monocular CDVA was 0.10 ± 0.12 and -0.02 ± 0.12 respectively (p<0.01). Pre- and post-operative spherical equivalent refractive error was 0.81±3.18 D and -0.07±0.59 D respectively (p=0.03). No operative or post-operative complications were recorded.

Conclusions:

The new Mplus X intraocular lens is a safe and effective way to enhance unaided distance and near visual acuity in patients undergoing cataract and lens replacement surgery. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
