Clinical outcomes after implantation of a rotationally asymmetric refractive multifocal intraocular lens

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the effectiveness of a rotationally asymmetric refractive multifocal intraocular lens (IOL).

Setting:

Balgeun Sesang Eye Clinic, Seoul, Korea

Methods:

Retrospective data of patients with Lentis Mplus LS-313 IOLs were analyzed. Visual acuity, refraction, and complications were assessed over a 3-month follow up. Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA) at 1 m, 63 cm, uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) at 40 cm were tested.

Results:

The study included 91 eyes of 55 patients (36 bilateral and 19 unilateral cases). The mean spherical equivalent changed from -0.59 ± 4.92 diopters (D) preoperatively to -0.08 ± 0.56 D at 3 months. The mean corrected distance visual acuity was -0.033 ± 0.05 logMAR. Mean UDVA was 0.032 ± 0.112 logMAR. Mean UIVA was 0.180 ± 0.092 logMAR at 1m, 0.174 ± 0.181 logMAR at 63cm and mean UNVA was 0.092 ± 0.043 logMAR. At 3 months, 100% of the bilateral and 93% of the unilateral cases achieved a UNVA of 6/9 (0.18 logMAR) or better. No severe visual symptoms requiring an IOL exchange were reported.

Conclusions:

The Lentis Mplus LS-313 IOL provided good distance, intermediate and near visual outcomes with minimal adverse effects. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
