The clinical results of iris-fixed aphakic IOL

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the clinical results of the Artisan iris-fixated intraocular lens (IOL) in a long time follow up study.

Setting:

Sungmo eye hospital, Busan, Korea.

Methods:

Twenty eyes of 20 patients underwent Artisan implantation between December 2012 and February 2014 and were followed up for more than 3 months. The study prospectively analyzed the efficacy, safety and predictability of Artisan implantation based on visual acuity and refractive errors.

Results:

Iris-claw aphakic IOLs were inserted during an IOL exchange procedure for dislocated posterior chaber IOLs in 19 eyes (99.5%) and as a secondary procedure in 1 eye (0.05%). Mean uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) and best corrected visual acuity (CDVA) improved significantly after surgery. UDVA was 20/40 or better in 75% of eyes and 20/25 or better in 55%. CDVA was 20/40 or better in 85% of eyes and 20/25 or better in 75%. The mean spherical equivalent (SE) after surgery was 0.38±1.04 diopters (D) and the SE at the last follow-up was within ±1.00 (D) of the targe refraction in 18 eyes (90%). The mean endothelial cell loss and high intraouclar pressure were observed only in one patient. No other serious complications occurred.

Conclusions:

Because of its good visual results and rare complications, the Artisan implantation may be an effective surgical procedure for patients. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
