Abstract Details
Purpose:
the advent of toric optics especially has allowed a great improvment in visual outcome after cataract surgery especially in multifocal implantation. We evaluate visual performances achieves with a new model of toric trifocal diffractive multifocal IOL : Toric Finevision © (Physiol)
Setting:
Ophthalmology department, University hospital Morvan, Brest, France
Methods:
This pilot study is a prospective observational study. Fifteen consecutive patients, requiring bilateral cataract surgery, motivated to reduce their spectacle dependence and presenting a corneal astigmatism greater than 1D, were implanted bilaterally with the FineVision Toric (Physiol), via standard cataract surgery. Any comorbidity or ocular surgery or trauma was excluded as well as pupil abnormality. The bilateral uncorrected visual acuity was measured at the best focus distance and objectivated by a defocus curve achieved with 0.5D steps.
Results:
Cataract surgeries were uneventful and the IOLs were aligned easily and remained stable after surgery with a no rotation of more 10° and a final position within the 5° of expected axis. No secondary rotation or exchange has to be performed. The remaining astigmatism was lower than 1 D in all cases and the visual acuity at the best focus at any distance was better than LogMAR 0.2 in all cases. The defocus curve showed a continuum of the visual acuity. Spectacle independence was over 80 %. No disabling photic symptoms were reported. The analysis with Alpins' method of the residual refraction showed a success index near 1, with very low Jackson's vectors.
Conclusions:
The Toric version of the FineVision trifocal optic enables to achieve spectacle independence at all distances for astigmatic patients FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
