Abstract Details

Purpose:

To simulate and evaluate the optical performance of multifocal intraocular lenses in patients with different corneal profiles using the Zemax Optical Design Program.

Setting:

University of Valencia - Optics Faculty, Burjassot, Valencia, Spain.

Methods:

We used Zemax-EE Optical design program in order to simulate a human eye in three different refractive situations such as normal corneas, post myopic and hyperopic LASIK ones. Furthermore we designed and inserted a multifocal intraocular lens and simulated the optical performance of this eye model.

Results:

We used Zemax in designing the models and calculating the graphs of spot diagrams, MTF functions and diffraction images. The simulation of these results in comparison with the expected were in good accordance.

Conclusions:

Zemax can be used in modelling different refractive conditions of the eye and calculating solutions that may be used in general. Further optimization may be achieved by inserting specific measurements of each patient in order to achieve better solutions. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
