Early multicenter clinical experience with presbyopia-correcting hydrogel corneal inlay in South Korea

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report early multicenter South Korean experience with Raindrop Near Vision Inlay for the treatment of presbyopia with and without concurrent LASIK

Setting:

Catholic Medical Center, Asan Medical Center, B&Viit, Severance University, Seoul South Korea

Methods:

Seventeen (n=17) subjects were implanted with the Raindrop Inlay in the non-dominant eye after creating femtosecond corneal flap and centering the inlay over the light constricted pupil. Concurrent laser ablation was performed on 5 subjects to correct for pre-existing refractive error and a +0.75 D refraction was targeted in the inlay eye. Visual acuities for near and distance were tested at various time points.

Results:

Preoperatively in the surgical eye, mean visual acuities were UDVA (0.9) and UNVA (0.28) with an average CCT of 540 microns. Average corneal flap depths was 171 microns. Early results at 1 week postop showed mean visual acuities in the inlay eye of UDVA (0.57), UNVA (0.52) at 40 cm, UNVA (0.6) at a preferred distance of 25 cm. All inlays are well centered with clear corneas. One month data are currently being collected and will be added to the presentation.

Conclusions:

In our early experience, the Raindrop inlay provides improved near vision with minimal early complications.
