Purpose:
To assess visual and refractive outcomes after implantation of an investigational angle-supported phakic lens for the correction of moderate to high myopia.
Setting:
3 open-label trials in U.S. (C-02-23), Europe (C-02-40), and Canada (C-02-21)
Methods:
A total of 360 subjects, with an average 2nd eye preoperative spherical equivalent of -10.45±2.17 diopters (D), underwent unilateral implantation of the AcrySof Cachet Phakic Lens in a prospective, multicenter, 5-year clinical trial. Study participants were >18 years of age, in good general and ocular health, and had stable moderate to high myopia. First-eye outcomes through 5 years postoperative have been presented elsewhere; second-eye outcomes at 5 years postoperative included uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), corrected visual acuity (CVA), and manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE)
Results:
At five years 2nd eye postoperative, UCVA of 20/25 or better was achieved by 88.8% (87/98) of subjects and 20/40 or better was achieved by 97.0% (95/98). CVA of 20/32 or better was achieved by all of the subjects (98/98). At the 5-year visits, mean MRSE (SD) for 1st eye was -0.34±0.59 D (N=314) and 2nd eye -0.33±0.52 D (N=97), respectively.
Conclusions:
Five years after implantation of the AcrySof Cachet Phakic Lens patients in the 2nd eye continued to demonstrate good visual acuity and stable refractive outcomes.
