Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate prevalence of different types of refractive errors in adult population of Tehran
Setting:
Tehran , Iran , Winter 2013
Methods:
Population based Study; Random cluster sampling of Tehran population aged over 10, 2013
849 people were included in the study.
Emmetropia was defined as refractive error between +/-0.5 D
Myopia was defined as bilateral refractive error (spherical equivalent) less than -0.5D, Hyperopia as bilateral refractive error > +0.5D, Unilateral myopia or hyperopia as one eye myopia or hyperopia with the second eye being emmetropic and Antimetropia as one eye being hyperopic with the second eye being myopic.
Results:
Prevalence of refractive errors was as follows:
• Emmetropia: 34.7%
• Myopia: 33.2%
• Hyperopia: 12.6%
• Unilateral myopia: 13%
• Unilateral hyperopia: 5.2%
• Antimetropia: 1.3%
Conclusions:
Prevalence of refractive errors are higher than previously thought in adult population of Tehran. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
