Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyse the ocular aberration changes of patients who had wavefront guided LASEK surgery

Setting:

Dunya Eye Hospital, Atakoy-Istanbul/ Turkey

Methods:

From November 2012 to December 2013 , 18 patients ( 36 eyes) who had wavefront guided LASEK surgery included to the study. All eyes were treated with STAR S4 IR( Abbott Medical optics, Santa Ana, CA) excimer laser using the customVue procedure . The iDesign aberrometer is used for the treatment planning. We did ocular examinations and measured high order aberrations (HOA) with the iDesign aberrometer with 4 mm pupil size preoperatively and one month after the surgery .

Results:

Of the 18 patiens, 14 were men and 4 were women. Mean age was 29,7 (19-45). Mean preoperative manifest spherical refractive error was -2,25±1,18 (-3,0-1,50) cylindrical refractive error was -0,76±0,7(-3,0-0,0). The mean preoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 1,03±-0,10 (1,0-1,5) and the mean postoperative uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was 1,06±-0,13 (1,0-1,5) with Snellen Acuity Chart at one month postoperatively. All eyes had no change or gained at least 1 snellen line . There were not statistically significant differences in HOAs (all zernike coefficients) with respect to preoperative values. Mean preoperative RMS was 0,35±0,13 (0,15-0,78) and postoperative mean RMS was 0,39±0,17 (0,15-0,86)(p=0,17). Mean preoperative spherical aberration was 0,04±0,10 (-0,06-0,43) and mean postoperative spherical aberration was 0,01±0,13 (-1,11-0,55) (p=0,13).

Conclusions:

Wavefront guided LASEK surgery is an effective, safe treatment for low myopia and low myopic astigmatisms. lt provides excellent refractive outcomes and does not cause significant increase in HOAs. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
