Long-term results of LASIK in eyes with ultra-thin cornea

Abstract Details

Purpose:

to access long-term results of LASIK in eyes with ultrathin cornea

Setting:

The S.N. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Insititution, Volgograd branch

Methods:

there were followed 105 persons (210 eyes) with ultrathin cornea (430- 480 µm) who underwent LASIK. Mean patients' age was 32 years (in a range from 19 to 48 years). Mean refraction in SE averaged - 6,3 ± 0,32 D. Best-corrected visual acuity prior to surgical procedure equaled 1,0.

Results:

mean corneal flap thickness in eyes with ultrathin cornea was 88,5±4,8 µm. Differences between average values of corneal flap thickness are statistically reliable (t=2,1; р<0,05). Residual corneal thickness after LASIK was no less than 270 µm. One year after the surgery mean refractive value in SE equaled -0,11±0,3 D. Post-LASIK noncorrected visual acuity was 1,0. No intraoperative complications were registered. Both immediate and long-term postoperative periods were uneventful. Posterior corneal elevation remained stable and didn't exceed 10 µm in all the cases throughout the follow-up period.

Conclusions:

application of myopic LASIK in patients with ultrathin cornea is safe, effective and highly predictable. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
