Abstract Details
Purpose:
Evaluate the efficacy, safety and predictability of the myopia and astigmatism correction by extracting a lenticule through a corneal microincision with a Relex Smile femtosecond laser , after 3 months of following up.
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, Q Vision, Vithas Vírgen del Mar Hospital, Almería (Spain).
Methods:
Series of cases in which patients with myopia and astigmatism were included. They were intervened by refractive surgery with Relex Smile femtosecond laser.
In all patients included, we measures the uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected visual acuity (CDVA), refraction, spherical equivalent, mean corneal thickness and intraocular pressure (IOP). After surgery, the uncorrected and corrected visual acuity, refraction, spherical equivalent and complications a month and 3 months were evaluated.
Results:
This study involved 88 eyes with a mean age of 31.77 ± 5.42 years (range 21-43 years). The mean postoperative spherical equivalent was (-0.01 ± 0.05) diopters after a month and it was the same throughout the follow-up. The UDVA was 20/20 in the 90%. The technique showed a high predictability (R2 = 0.9977). Regarding safety, 89 % maintained the CDVA, 10% gained one line and 1% gained more than 2 lines. There were no complications during or after the procedure.
Conclusions:
Correction of myopia and astigmatism with Relex Smile has a high effectiveness, predictabity and safety. This study requires a longer follow-up. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
