Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the wisdom of performing wavefront-guided PRK in comparison with standard aspheric laser profile.
Setting:
Republican ophthalmic center, Minsk, Belarus.
Methods:
20 patients has undergone laser refractive treatment (PRK) bilaterally. In each case only one eye has undergone wavefront-guided ablation, standard aspheric protocol was used on the conjugated eye. Refraction, total HOA rate, pachymetry were measured before and 3 month after the operation, also questioning on the patients self-evaluation of vision quality (scale from 1 to 10) was performed 3 month post-op.
Results:
There was no significant difference in post operative refraction, total HOA rate and patient's self-evaluation of the both eyes vision quality. The increased pachymetry reduction was noticed in eyes that undergone wavefront-guided ablation in comparison with conjugate were standard aspheric protocol was used.
Conclusions:
The results of the research lead us to the conclusion that there is no evident expediency of performing wavefront-guided PRK instead of using standard aspheric profile. Moreover, the increased tissue consumption during wavefront-guided ablation could be the additional risk factor for the corneal decompensation in case of ectasia development. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
