Abstract Details
Purpose:
To determine the efficacy of the astigmatism correction following toric phakic IOLs (pIOL) implantation analyzing the preoperative ORA with the Alpins vector method.
Setting:
Vissum Corporation, Alicante, Spain.
Methods:
Astigmatism was analyzed in 93 eyes of 60 patients and then divided into two groups depending on the implanted intraocular lens (IOL): ARTIFLEX group, with 50 patients and ICL Group, composed by 43 patients. Astigmatic changes were analysed using the Alpins vectorial method with the ASSORT.
Results:
Mean ORA value in each group: was 0.85 ± 0.76 in the ARTIFLEX group and 0.97 ± 0.92 in the ICL group, no significant differences between two groups, p = 0,75. In both types of lenses, the amount of refractive cylinder were significantly reduced, improving uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), p<0,01. Patients with ARTIFLEX achieved a mean UDVA of 0.13 ±0.19 LogMAR, by reducing the mean refractive cylinder to -0.51 ± 0.64 D. In the ICL group, after implantation UDVA improved to 0.24 ± 0.22 LogMAR with a reduction in refractive cylinder to -1.03 ±0.79 D. Astigmatic and UDVA values were significantly better in the group with ARTIFLEX IOL than in the group implanted with ICL IOL, p <0.01. Statistical significant differences were observed in IOS between groups of IOL, p <0.01; where ARTIFLEX group presents results nearer to the ideal value. No significant correlations were found between the ORA with refractive and vectorial parameters.
Conclusions:
The ARTIFLEX and ICL toric IOLs show similar refractive results independently of the preoperative ORA value. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
