Abstract Details

Purpose:

The aim of this study is to evaluate an innovative approach to the surface-bulk characterization and treatments of hydrophobic and premium IOL produced by molding and lathe-cut. Results showed that limitations of traditional methods of treatments and characterization can be overcome.

Setting:

Laboratory R&D SIFI MEDTECH, Aci S.Antonio, Catania, Italy

Methods:

Topographic Profile, analysis of defects and roughness have been conducted by using an innovative applications of an optical profilometer to IOL and mold surface. A treatment for a residual monomer reduction and a new method of control have been applied. An optical analyzer have been used for advanced optical performance analysis.

Results:

The optical profilometer permitted to obtain profile of intraocular lens until to 4-5mm of diameter, in presence of sphere profile or advanced optical profile. The roughness values obtained from the analysis are variable from 10nm to 3,5µm. Analysis of residual monomer showed like as the quantity of it is limited between 0,1 to 1,0%. Finally optical analyzer permitted to obtain wafefront profile and MTF value of advanced optical profile lenses.

Conclusions:

All this developed and validated new method of treatments and characterization are important to develop new IOL with new materials and optimize the process of production. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
