Abstract Details
Purpose:
To determine agreement between partial coherence interferometry (PCI) and optical low-coherence reflectometry (OLCR) measurements of anterior chamber depth (ACD) in pseudophakic eyes.
Setting:
VIROS - Vienna Institute for Research in Ocular Surgery, a Karl Landsteiner institute, Hanusch Hospital, Vienna, Austria
Methods:
This prospective study included patients that underwent uneventful cataract surgery. Optical biometry of the anterior chamber depth, defined as the distance between the corneal endothelium and the anterior surface of the intraocular lens, was measured with PCI technology (ACMaster; Carl Zeiss Meditec, Germany) and OLCR technology (Lenstar LS900; Haag-Streit, Switzerland). All data were exported as optical path lengths and back-calculated using the group refractive index.
Results:
In total, 65 eyes of 65 patients were included. In fifteen cases, no utilizable values could be obtained from the OLCR device. Mean axial eye length was 23.4 mm (SD: 1.0 mm). Mean ACD in the PCI and the OLCR group was 5.019 mm (SD: 660 µm) and 5.015 mm (SD: 663 µm), respectively. The mean absolute difference was 12.6 µm (SD: 11.8; p=0.06). In a Bland-Altman analysis, 94 % of all corresponding measurements were within the 95% limits of agreement.
Conclusions:
Pseudophakic ACD measurements obtained with he PCI and OLCR devices can be considered interchangeable. The OLCR device proved to be more user-friendly and substantially faster, however, valid measurements were not obtainable in a substantial amount of eyes with the OLCR device. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
