Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess the inter-observer repeatability of the Pentacam system (Oculus, Inc.) in measurement of corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, anterior chamber angle and corneal indices.
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology Gulhane Military School of Medicine
Methods:
One randomly selected eye of 30 healthy patients was taken account into this study. All patients have undergone complete ophthalmic examination and additionally measurement of anterior chamber depth, anterior chamber angle, corneal thickness and all corneal topographic indices. The measurements with Pentacam were repeated one hour later by another experienced technician. Exclusion criteria included having any systemic or ocular disease and having history of ocular trauma or surgery. The inter-session repeatability was assessed by paired t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient is calculated.
Results:
The mean age of 30 subjects (18 male, 12 female) was 28.3±8.6 years (range 15-50 years). For measurement of corneal thickness in all areas, Pentacam demonstrated no significant difference, and a high correlation between two sessions (for central corneal thickness; p=0.092, Pearson's correlation coefficient=0.905). Anterior chamber depth was also well correlated (0.980), whereas there was significant difference (p=0.01) in measurement of anterior chamber angle despite a reasonable correlation (0.735) between two sessions. Anterior and posterior corneal indices were not significantly different, with a high correlation level between two sessions.
Conclusions:
The Pentacam showed high repeatability on measurements of corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, and all corneal topographic indices, whereas for the anterior chamber angle measurement, it may not be considered as a reliable instrument. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
