Abstract Details
Purpose:
In the present study we suggest the usefulness of corneal epithelial maps with Opthical Coherence Tomography (OCT) in order to achieve more specificity and sensitivity in the diagnosis of numerous corneal pathologies.
Setting:
The study was performed in the Department of Ophtalmology in Hospital La Fe and in Aiken. The total duration was 1 year.
Methods:
Maps of the corneal epithelial and stromal thickness were generated from OCT in 20 subjects diagnosed of corneal pathologies by combined topography, tomography and Visual Acuity examination.
Results:
A perfect correlation between the initial suspected diagnosis based on corneal topography and OCT image-based corneal epithelial maps was observed in all the patients.
Conclusions:
We believe that the study of anatomical changes through analysis of OCT corneal epithelial maps is helpful in the management and monitoring of patients with corneal diseases. It provides important additional information and is a good complement to the anatomical study and provides a novel benchmark for future and comparative studies. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
